Excerpt from the book:
\"Then he hit a floor. Smashed into a floor and things fell on top of him, crushing him, squeezing the very life out of him. He could see his own blood oozing away from him and all around him again, were the crushed faces of the demons, vomiting and spewing spittle and blood at him from grotesque holes in the sides of their squashed skulls and with their shattered mouths trying to curse him but spitting only teeth. Then the weight was lifted, for a moment he thought he was awake, but then he was lifted, forcibly, dragged to his feet and forced to look into something's eyes. A something he somehow recognised as a girl, it hissed and spat at him and deliriously, shockingly screamed and gurgled. Johnny did nothing, he couldn't do anything. It was too vulgar an image, it was so sickeningly disfigured and mangled as to be just the resemblance of something once, but no more than that: a resemblance, a mask of a human face that no longer fitted properly. The skin from its chin fell away as it shrilled continuously to reveal the bone from beneath and the tongue lolled through and flapped loosely down. Johnny was frozen with fear. He closed his eyes and prayed. He prayed for it to stop, he begged anyone listening to stop the nightmare. And he woke up.
He woke up on the floor of his bedroom saturated in his own sweat. He could feel his blood racing around his veins, his heart pounding, his head thumping and his eyes were stinging from squeezing them so tight. He slowly made his way to the bathroom, turned on the shower, undressed and stepped into the freezing cold fountain. The images of the disfigured faces wouldn't leave him, hers in particular; he shivered under the cold water, thought to put in some heat but changed his mind. The cold water was calming him down, was soothing his head and aching, numb body and he liked how it felt.\"
